Bret Joorsen was born and raised in South Africa, where his love of the outdoors led him from the veld to the ocean, spearfishing and scuba diving whenever he could. After serving in the military, he studied construction management and built a long career in the industry. Now based in England with his wife, Lisa, their four children, and a lively household of pets, Bret divides his free time between travel, exploring the British countryside, and walking their spirited Jack Russell, Trixie.

The Covid lockdown gave Bret the chance to pursue a lifelong ambition to write, and from that came his debut novel, Firefly. Though professional commitments and a period of ill health delayed its release, the story eventually found its way into the world. Combining his interests in science, history, and the metaphysical, Bret crafts stories that blur the line between fact and fiction, always rooted in a sense of possibility.
