Shaken by the latest threats from Clive Douglas, Sean ventures north with Catherine to confront their old enemy face to face. Although seemingly resolved to his fate, Douglas offers information relating to a previously unknown case, in return for a transfer closer to home. What he reveals is simply too tempting to ignore, but Sean and Catherine know from bitter experience that Clive Douglas is not a man to be trusted. As the parts of the puzzle begin to fall into place, suspicion falls in the most unlikely of places and Catherine and Sean find themselves questioning the loyalties of those around them. With the help of an old friend, Sean navigates between the past and the present in his search for the truth, but in doing so his own loyalty is called into question in the most dramatic way possible.
