Dr James Main has been a practicing private dentist for the past 40 years, working in the UK and overseas. He was a Royal Navy Dental Officer and taught for many years at the University of Manchester Dental School. He currently works at his private dental practice in Somerset, where he lives with his family and their dog.

He is the co-author of several academic papers in dental journals, both in the UK and the US, and is also a published poet.

Dr James has had a lifelong interest in hypnotherapy, successfully treating numerous patients for psychosomatic disorders unrelated to dentistry.

He has spent the last 13 years developing the MAGIC technique and in 2024 published a paper about it in The British Dental Journal for the benefit of other clinicians.
