Desired
Don't Judge Me
by C C Campbell
“Desired” by C C Campbell is a compelling read that delves into the complexities of love, identity, and empowerment. Set against the backdrop of the 2008 financial crash, the story follows Angie, a barrister whose seemingly perfect life in Surrey crumbles, leaving her feeling invisible and unfulfilled. In a bold move, she relocates to a coastal town, embarking on a journey of sexual awakening and self-discovery. Encouraged by her husband Rich, Angie explores her forgotten desires, challenging the boundaries of their marriage. The novel vividly portrays her struggle for freedom and empowerment, while grappling with guilt and societal judgement.
Campbell’s “Desired” is a provocative exploration of middle-aged women’s sexual empowerment and the limits of unconditional love. Angie’s journey is both explicit and emotionally raw, highlighting the sacrifices mothers often make and the invisibility they feel. Rich’s unwavering support, despite his own moral dilemmas, adds depth to the narrative, making it a gripping read. The book’s unflinching portrayal of love and lust offers a fresh perspective on self-discovery and empowerment. For readers seeking a daring and thought-provoking story, “Desired” is a must-buy.
C C Campbell, affectionately known as CC, was raised under the influence of the High Church, with its judgemental patriarchy, particularly against women. This upbringing certainly influenced the main characters in the Desired trilogy, who want to break free from undue moral repression. As with all boundaries, once they are pushed or removed, a whole new set of trials come into play.
Having heard many women and couples talk openly about their marriages, CC has successfully woven real life emotions and feelings into Desired.
Now happily residing in the Cotswolds, CC embraces a more liberal philosophy to life and people, and especially enjoys writing in the magical moments around sunrise.
