Bret Joorsen’s Firefly is a gripping blend of sci-fi thriller and historical intrigue that keeps you hooked from the very first page. Set against the striking backdrop of the South African mountains, the story follows Craig Farrant, a man who wants nothing more than to escape his past and live quietly. But when a storm brings something otherworldly crashing into his life, peace is the last thing he gets.

What unfolds is a fast-paced chase through wilderness and history alike. As Craig becomes entangled with a secret biotech corporation and an artefact that defies explanation, we’re pulled into a dual timeline that stretches back to the 1940s. Here, Joorsen deftly layers in a chilling Nazi plot, a mysterious wreck, and a decades-old experiment whose consequences have reached right into Craig’s world.

The partnership between Craig and Margie brings warmth and humanity to the action, giving the story heart as well as high stakes. The tension builds as their journey reveals just how deep the conspiracy runs – and how much is at risk if they fail.

With its mix of history, suspense, and speculative science, Firefly delivers both thrills and thought-provoking twists. It’s a novel that asks big questions while never letting go of its pace – an exciting adventure that fans of sci-fi mysteries and historical thrillers will devour.

Bret Joorsen was born and raised in South Africa, where his love of the outdoors led him from the veld to the ocean, spearfishing and scuba diving whenever he could. After serving in the military, he studied construction management and built a long career in the industry. Now based in England with his wife, Lisa, their four children, and a lively household of pets, Bret divides his free time between travel, exploring the British countryside, and walking their spirited Jack Russell, Trixie.

The Covid lockdown gave Bret the chance to pursue a lifelong ambition to write, and from that came his debut novel, Firefly. Though professional commitments and a period of ill health delayed its release, the story eventually found its way into the world. Combining his interests in science, history, and the metaphysical, Bret crafts stories that blur the line between fact and fiction, always rooted in a sense of possibility.
