The Halifax
From Riches to Rags
by
**The financial crash of 2008 was the worst since 1929. Globally, a number of banks went bust. In Britain, some were saved by the government; either by nationalisation or emergency takeovers.** In the latter category was HBOS (formed in 2001 with the merger of the Halifax Bank and Bank of Scotland) taken over by Lloyds TSB. This book tells the story of the 156 years leading up to that demise. It concludes with the consequences of that collapse.
_The author, Paul Bagnall, a retired lecturer in economics, lives in London._
